In search of spiritual serenity - or just someone

Some of My Parts

Written and performed by Pat Galante
Directed by Lauren Kruse
The Duplex Cabaret Theatre
61 Christopher Street (255-5438)
Non-union production (Thurs. at 8; closes June 28)

Pat Galante's funny, poignant, highly entertaining one-woman-show is not to be missed. With minimal (but well-chosen) props and an absence of anyone else on stage who isn't imaginary, Galante gave a tour-de-force performance that was as cleverly written as it was brilliantly performed.Galante first appeared on stage dancing with imaginary men at an apparently hopping party and gradually came to focus on a single fellow female partygoer as her audience and sounding board (for many woes and witticisms). Along the way, she revealed her insecure and endearing character's many sides through anecdotes of the various episodes in her quest for health, peace, a sense of self, and a soulmate. Galante was charismatic, elastic, charming, and an excellent impersonator. Her take on a fellow confused romantic soul, a feisty Latina named Juicy Lucy (with her own exercise/exorcise video!) was simply hilarious. Anyone dealing with relationship issues, body issues, envy issues, why-am-I-here-and-why-doesn't-anyone-care-what-goes-on-beneath-my-surface issues will laugh all too knowingly at the on-target but always original material.Sound, and lighting by Kimo Desean, provided appropriate dramatic and comic touches. Direction by Lauren Kruse was pitch-perfect.
